On the 10th May 2014, we celebrated a momentous occasion. Our branch standard, being over 70 years old, was laid to rest in Rock Church and our new standard was consecrated, blessed and brought into service.
The day started at 13:15, when over 20 standards from all over Worcestershire assembled at The Rock Cross Inn. At 13:40, they all marched to Rock Church, together with our old standard and new standard joining the parade.
All standards were unfurled, except our new standard, which could not be carried unfurled until after it’s dedication and blessing. The new standard was carried at the rear of the parade, by our branch members.
The turnout was spectacular and the weather was kind to us. Upon arrival at the church, all standards formed a “Guard of Honour”, joined by our local Scouts and Cubs groups, at the entrance and our old and new standards were carried into the church.
The service, which was conducted by Reverend Stephen Owens, was very touching and made it so very special. The day was made especially poignant, due to the Reverend retiring shortly.
At the end of the service, refreshments were offered at the rear of the church for all attendees.
We would like to extend our thanks to the following, whose help and expertise made the day such a success:
- Reverend Stephen Owens
- John & Sheila Nott
- Edna Mills & her team (Catering)
- David Nott (Official Photographer)
- Mark Garnier (County Standard Bearer)
- Martyn Carter (Parade Marshall)
- Jim Wrigglesworth (Standard Bearer)
- Josh Lyle
- Escorts (4 in total)
- Keith Perkins
We would also like to thank all the members of the branch for their loyal support, anyone we may have inadvertently overlooked, and finally, benefactors, without these special people this day might never have taken place.
Photographs are available from Mr David Nott, please contact him for copies.
